FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Will gel damage my nails?
Gel should not damage your nails. It should only improve your nails by protecting them and giving them a chance to grow, especially with builder gel as it is stronger than classic gel and we backfill it meaning your nails are not exposed to dehydrating products like acetone. What can damage your nails is chemicals in poor quality products, over filing of your nails and picking off your gel nails as this can tear a layer of the nail off.
Do my nails need a break from gel?
The common myth that your nails need to breathe is simply not true. Your nails get all their nutrients from the nail root. Your nails are made up of dead keratin like your hair. So, giving your nails a break from gel is not necessary and won't improve your nail condition in any way. If your nails are damaged or weak we can help you correct this with our IBX treatment or recommend a collagen supplement.
How long should my gel polish last?
The lifespan of your gel differs depending on which gel product you have, traditional gel is designed to last two weeks and builder gel which is harder wearing than traditional gel should last three weeks. Although the lifespan of your gel is dependent on a variety of factors including, the natural oils in your nail plate, the natural condition of your nails, what cleaning chemicals you use, what you do for a job and not using your nails as tools. Flaky or peeling natural nails can cause gel to lift off your nail as the natural nail underneath lifts. To ensure your gel manicure lasts we recommend applying cuticle oil daily this prevents the gel going brittle as well as hydrating your cuticles, wearing gloves when cleaning and avoiding soaking your nails in spas or swimming pools as this can de bond the gel.
